Apple Watch Series 4 with edge-to-edge curved display, ECG, Fall detection announced starting at $399

Apple has kick started the event in style with Apple Watch Series 4 announcement. Three years in a row, Apple used the same design for its Apple Watches, whereas this year, the company finally brought some major changes. The Apple Watch Series 4 now comes with stunning new edge-to-edge curved display. The company says that the screen is over 30% larger than the predecessor. Now, instead of the 38mm and 42mm models, the Series 4 comes in 40mm and 44mm models, respectively.

The new watchOS now takes advantage of the larger screen. It lets users add contacts to watchface for one-tap access to them. It gets three new watchfaces includes, fire, water, vapor dynamic watchfaces that interact with the display.

The digital crown is being re-engineered and includes haptic feedback. The speakers are 50% louder optimized for phone calls, Siri and Walkie-Talkie and the Mic is also moved to the other side to reduce the echo. It is powered by the next-generation S4 chip with a custom 64-bit dual-core processor that deliver up to 2x better performance compared to Apple S3.

Other hardware improvements include an updated accelerometer and gyroscope that brings new health capabilities, which can detect hard falls and automatically trigger a call to emergency services if you’re immobile for a minute after the fall. The watch S4 has an electrical heart rate sensor that can take an electrocardiogram (ECG) using the new ECG app.

The Apple Watch Series 4 GPS edition starts at $399 (INR 28,686 approx). The Watch S4 (GPS + Cellular) starts at $499 (INR 35,875 approx). The Apple Watch S4 will be available in gold stainless steel along with silver and space black stainless steel models. The Apple Watch S4 GPS edition will be available to order from September 14th in 26 countries and Apple Watch S4 (GPS + Cellular) will be available to order in 16 countries.

Both models will be available in stores from September 21. India is not in the list, but it is expected to be available here soon. Apple has also announced that the watch Series 3 will be available at the new starting price of $279 (20,058 approx).
